![]() ![]() ![]() Two semesters of refinement under the guidance of software testing students at Florida Institute of Technology have identified dozens of approaches for attacking software with the intention of finding bugs. The attacks were conceived after studying hundreds of real software bugs and generalizing their causes and symptoms. These manual, exploratory tests are designed and executed on-the-fly with little or no overhead. Abstract: This paper describes several methods (referred to as "attacks") to expose design and development flaws in software. Specifically, it focuses on the technical aspects of software engineering, such as coding, testing, and dependability measurement. The author, Whittaker, is an associate professor and chair of software engineering at Florida Institute of Technology, where his research interests include software reliability and quality assurance. Note: I made minor changes to improve readability and grammar, while preserving the original content and meaning.
